If you are planning to build your drip campaign entirely by yourself, then the "Start from scratch" campaign template might be the one you want to use:

This template allows you to build your campaign from zero. You can choose your trigger event, set unlock intervals or enable custom unlock conditions for all of the content in your course.

Here's how you can use it.

Create the Drip Campaign

After you set up your course structure, you'll be able to create your campaign directly form the "Drip" tab of your main course overview:

Then proceed with creating a new campaign:

You'll be taken to this lightbox, where you can start setting up the template. Start by giving it a name:

Unlike the other drip campaign templates, you can notice here that the start trigger and the unlock content field are left blank. This is because you are using the "Start from scratch" template, which means that the campaign template will come without any predefined settings.

Setting Up the Campaign

So you can start by selecting the event that triggers the campaign:

And then decide how you would like to unlock the content

Browse the available options and select the one that best suits your needs. You can start unlocking content when the users start the course or when they purchase the product, or, if you want, you can set a specific time and date for unlocking content.

Then you can unlock the content based on custom unlock conditions that you get to set individually for each piece of content. You can also choose to unlock the content systematically, based on a schedule you have in mind, and lastly, you can use Thrive Automator third party actions for unlocking content.

Lastly, if you expand the "Advanced settings" section, you'll have these two toggles:

  • Force users to complete course in order

With this toggle active, you'll be able to force all students to complete the course content in order:

The lessons will still be unlocked based on the conditions you set in your drip campaign, but the students will be forced to complete the course content lesson by lesson, gradually.

So they'll start with the first lesson, complete it, then proceed to the second one, complete that one as well and so on.

  • Show locked content in lesson lists

This refers to the lesson list that shows up on the left side of any lesson.

If this toggle is active, the students can view the title of the upcoming lessons or modules that will be unlocked for them. If you deactivate it, those locked modules or lessons will be hidden from the lesson list.

After you create your campaign, you will be taken to this view where you can further set it up if you want.

I've created a start from scratch campaign in which the start trigger is a specific time and date, and I've decided to set custom unlock conditions for my course content. Therefore, my campaign schedule will look like this:

You get to see here when each lesson will be unlocked (or if it's already unlocked), based on how you've set it up in the campaign template.

If you have decided to use custom unlock conditions for your content, then click on the unlock option next to each lesson, and set up a condition for it:

This will trigger a new set of options:

There are various rules you can add here, based on this pre-defined list:

After you are finished setting up the campaign, there's still one important step that you need to do, in order to make sure your drip campaign is working.

Applying the Drip Schedule

Access the "Drip" tab of your Products dashboard:

Make sure you apply the drip schedule that you've just created:

Don't forget to also set up the "Access restriction rules" for the content that is drip feed protected:
