Displaying a Featured Image in Thrive Theme Builder

Hiding or showing a “Featured Image” from a post or page can be done in two manners – both on a template level and on a post/page level.

To begin with, there are two ways in which you can show or hide a “Featured Image” on a template level.

You can either add a “Featured Image” element, which you can later remove (if you want to hide the “Featured Image”), or you can add a regular “Image” element and use the dynamic feature. Both of these methods are described below.

Note: All of these methods work only if you have already set a “Featured Image” from the WordPress settings of the post or page that you are applying the template to. If you want to find out how you can set a “Featured Image”, check out this article.

The first thing that you have to do is access the template for which you want to hide or show the “Featured Image”. To do that, in your Thrive Theme Builder Dashboard, access the “Templates” section:

This will open the page with your Thrive Theme Builder templates. Find the template that you want to show or hide the “Featured Image” for, hover over it and click on “Edit”:

This will open the template in the Thrive Theme Builder editor. By default, the template might or might not have a “Featured Image” on it already (this depends on the way the “Visibility Settings” were set).

As an example, I will use a template with no “Featured Image” on it, and I will show you how to show or hide such an element.

As mentioned before, one of the ways in which you can make this element visible from a template level is to add a “Featured Image” element. In order to do that, click on the plus sign from the right sidebar of the editor:

In the list of elements that opens, look for the “Featured Image” element, or type its name in the search bar. Drag and drop it where you best see fit, on the template:

Note: If you place the element in a section (“Content Section”, for example), you will first have to enter the “Edit Mode” in order to do any further customizations to the “Featured Image” element.

You can do that by clicking on the orange “Edit” button that appears on the left sidebar once you add the element into a section:

Then, you can use the options of the element in order to customize it, as described in this article.

This is one way in which you can show the “Featured Image” on a Thrive Theme Builder template.

Use the “Dynamic Feature” option of an “Image” element

A second way in which you can show a “Featured Image” is with the use of a regular “Image” element. You can either add a new “Image” element to your template and customize it, or you can turn any existing image from the template into a “Featured Image”.

Click on the image that you want to edit. You will notice that its options will appear on the left sidebar:

Under the “Main Options” section, look for the “Element Type” option. This is where you can choose whether the image type should be a static or a dynamic one. In this case, choose “Dynamic”:

Once you do that, another option will appear, from where you have to choose the “Dynamic Source”. Click on the field below the option:

This will open a drop-down with the available “Dynamic Sources”. From this list, choose “Featured Image”:

The image will transform into the “Featured Image” that you have previously set.

These were the ways to show a “Featured Image” on a template. Moreover, you can hide it, as well. To do that, simply remove the element (whether you have used a “Featured Image” element, or a regular “Image” element and used the dynamic feature).

To remove the “Featured Image”, select the element and click on the trash can icon that appears on the top right corner of it:

Hide/Show a Featured Image on a Page/Post Level

You can also show or hide the “Featured Image” from a single page or post. Here is how you can do this:

In your WordPress Admin Dashboard, go to the “Posts” or “Pages” section from the left sidebar, depending on what you want to edit, and hover over it.

As an example, I will explain how you can manage the “Featured Image” of a post, but keep in mind that the process is exactly the same in the case of showing or hiding it on a page.

When you hover over the “Posts” section, a small sub-menu will open. Click on “All Posts”:

This opens the list with all of your posts. Hover over the post that you want to show or hide the “Featured Image” for, to see its options. Click on the “Edit” option:

On the right side of the page that opens, some options will appear. Again, there are two sections in the right sidebar which you can use in order to manage the “Featured Image”:

Firstly, in this right sidebar with the WordPress options, one of the sections is called “Featured Image”. Click on the down arrow in order to expand the options:

When you do that, the “Featured Image” options will be visible. You can change the image, or remove it:

You can find more instructions about how to do that in this article.

Theme Builder Visibility Section

Besides the “Featured Image” section, there is one more that you can use in order to manage the “Featured Image”. In the same right sidebar, you will notice the “Theme Builder Visibility” section. Again, click on the down arrow in order to expand the options:

If you scroll down a bit, you will see some options with checkboxes next to them:

One of them is the “Featured Image” one. If this is checked, this means that the “Featured Image” will be visible on the post. If you want to hide it, simply uncheck the box next to the “Featured Image” option:

After you finish with the modifications, don’t forget to save the changes from the top right side of the page:

Note: Keep in mind that the “Theme Builder Visibility” options will be visible here (in the WordPress settings) only if you have not opened or edited the post/page using Thrive Architect.

If the post/page has been previously opened in the Thrive Architect editor, the visibility options will migrate there. You can read this article if you want to see how you can use the visibility settings from there, as well.

These were the ways in which you can show or hide a “Featured Image” from a page/post or an entire Thrive Theme Builder template.
