When you are building a quiz with Thrive Quiz Builder, besides adding the standard “Text Questions”, you also have the possibility to add multimedia questions, such as “Video Questions” to your quiz.

This way, you can make your quiz even more interesting/interactive for your users, because they will see a video and not just read the question of the quiz.

Here are the steps you need to follow, in order to add “Video Questions” to your quiz:

Naturally, first, you will need to create a quiz (or edit an already existing one) in your Quiz Builder Dashboard. If you require detailed information on how to do that, please check out this article.

Add Questions

You can add questions to a quiz in the “Quiz Structure” section. The first part of setting up the "Quiz Structure" consists of defining the questions and answers for your quiz.

Click on the “Manage” button to trigger the questions editor:

In order to add a question, click on the “Add Question” button from the upper-left corner of the questions editor:

This will open a pop-up window with the three available question types you can choose from:

  • Multiple Choice with Buttons

  • Multiple Choice with Images

  • Open Ended Questions

Choose whichever type you want from here. In our case, since we will add the question in the form of a video, the type you select here will refer to the way users can answer the “Video Question”.

So, for example, if you choose “Multiple Choice with Buttons”, users will be able to answer the “Video Question”, by clicking on one of the multiple possible answers you will provide them with.

Once you’ve selected the question type, click on the “Continue” button to go on:

Turn the Question Into a Video Question

The next step consists of actually adding the question. In the “Add Question” pop-up, you will see that by default the “Text Question” is selected. Click on the down arrow next to the “Text Question” option:

This will open a drop-down where you can change the question type. Click on the “Video Question” to select it:

The interface of the pop-up will change, allowing you to upload your “Video Question” using the options from its first section:

First and foremost, in order to upload the question in the form of a video, you will have to select the "Source" of the video. This will also determine the rest of the options that you will have for the uploaded video.

By default, YouTube will be selected as the source of the video. Click on the down arrow from the “Source” section:

This will open the drop-down with every available source option that you have for your video question. There are a few different platforms you can choose from here, or you can upload a video from your PC, using the “Custom” option:

To select one of the platforms or the “Custom” option, all you have to do is click on them. Depending on which “Source” option you have selected, you will have various options for inserting and customizing the “Video Question”, as follows:

Youtube

Add URL

If you have chosen YouTube as the “Source” of your “Video Question”, you will have to start by inserting the URL of the YouTube video in the “URL” field:

After you have inserted the URL, press “Enter”, or click anywhere outside the field and the video will be automatically added as the “Video Question”. You will see a preview of it appear in the right part of the pop-up.

Video Style

Next, you can start customizing the video. By default, there is no style added to your video. If you want to add a style to it, click on the down arrow from the “Video Style” section:

This will open a drop-down with the styles that you can choose from:

Scroll down to see all of the available styles. If you have found the style that you would like to use, simply click on it and it will be applied to your video.

Whenever you want to change the style of the video, you can simply open the “Video Style” drop-down again and select the different styles that you want to use.

Display Options

After you have added the video’s URL, the “Display Options” will become available. Click on the down arrow next to the “Display Options”, from the “Advanced” section to see them:

A drop down will open with the available “Display Options” that you can apply to your YouTube video:

To use/apply any of these options, all you have to do is to check the checkbox on their left. Here is what each of these options represents:

  • Autoplay - with this option, the “Video question” will start playing automatically when somebody views the page it is on

  • Hide logo - if this option is selected, the “YouTube” logo will not be displayed on the video

  • Hide controls - if this option is checked, the play controls (such as volume, play/pause) will not be displayed on the video

There are two ways in which you can change this color and replace it with another color.

Set up the Answer

After you have finished setting up the “Video Question”, all you have left to do is to define one or more answers for it, depending on what quiz type you are building.

Answer field - for the 'Survey' quiz

If you are planning to create this type of quiz, then an open ended question is the best solution - as it offers the visits the possibility to input their own answer.

Therefore, the options available for the answers when you are building this type of quiz are the following:

Category - for 'Category' quiz

In the case of a "Category" quiz, you also have to assign the answer to a specific category using the “Category” section next to the "Answer" field. Just click on the down arrow and then, select a category from the drop-down that opens:

Points - for 'Numeric' and 'Percentage' quizzes

In the case of "Numeric" and "Percentage" quizzes you have to define how many points should the answer be worth, by entering a value in the "Points" field, next to the "Answer" field:

Right or wrong answer - for 'Right/Wrong' quiz

In the case of the "Right/Wrong" quiz type, instead of points, you have to choose whether or not the answer you have just added is the correct one. If it is, leave the checkbox next to the "Correct answer" option (which is next to the answer you have just entered) selected:

If the answer you have entered is the wrong one, un-check the checkbox.

Weight, Tags & Feedback

Furthermore, if you wish, you can also assign a weight, as well as attach tags and set up feedback to the answers. Not all of these options are available for all quiz types.

However, you can find below several details about what each of these options does in order to know how to use them if they are available for your chosen quiz type.

Weight

After this option is activated, you will see the "Weight" section appear next to the “Answer” field:

In the "Weight" section you can enter a number, in accordance with how important this specific answer is for the “Video Question”.

Tags

After the "Tags" option is activated, you will see the "Tags" section appear under the “Answer” field:

I this section, you can enter tags separated by commas, which will be attached to that specific answer. These tags can be sent to your mailing list if your API connection supports tagging. This way you will be able to categorize users more easily, based on the received answers from them.

Feedback

This option allows you to display some feedback with each answer that you set up for the "Audio Question". All you have to do is to complete the field from the "Feedback" section with the feedback that you want for the respective answer:

This way, if someone will choose the respective answer, the related feedback will also be displayed for them.

In order to add more answers for this “Video Question”, click on the “New Answer” option and repeat the above-mentioned steps to add the new answer:

Once you are done setting up the “Video Question” and the answers for it as well, you can click on the “Save” button from the pop-up and the question will be added to your quiz:
