Adding Redirect Settings to a Quiz in Thrive Quiz Builder

While you are setting up your quiz in Thrive Quiz Builder you have the possibility to use the “URL Redirect” option, with the help of which you can add redirect settings to a quiz.

What this means is that you can redirect the people who take your quiz to one of your pages/posts, or to a custom URL (an external URL), depending on the result they obtain in the quiz.

Here are the steps you need to take in order to do this:

Naturally, you will need to create a quiz in your Quiz Builder Dashboard. If you require detailed information on how to do that, please check out this article.

Quiz Structure – URL Redirect option

While you are setting up the “Quiz Structure”, after you have added the questions and answers to a quiz, you will have to decide what will happen after someone takes your quiz.

This is the part where you can add redirect settings to a quiz. At the second step of the “Quiz Structure”, by default, the “Results Page” option is selected. If you want to set up and display the results page to your users after they take a quiz, then you can continue with this option.

However, if instead of a “Results Page” you want to redirect the users to one of your pages/posts or to an external URL, you will have to use the “URL Redirect” option.

Note: For the “Gain Customer Insights” quiz template, as well as the “Survey” quiz type, you can only choose to display the “Results Page”.

Click on the little arrow next to the “Results Page” option:

This will open a drop-down with the two options you can choose from. Click on the “URL Redirect” option to select it:

Then, click on either the “Manage” button or on the indication that appeared above the “URL Redirect” option:

Add the redirect settings

The page where you can set up the redirect will open. Depending on the type of quiz that you are building, there are two possible versions of this page, so continue with the instructions from the section that presents your quiz type:

Number, Percentage, and Right/Wrong quiz types

You will see that there are no redirect settings added to the quiz yet. In order to add a redirect setting, click on the “Add New” button from this page:

Another section will appear on the page where you can add the “Redirect Settings”:

  • Redirect range

The first thing to do is to set the redirect range, the minimum, and the maximum result/score. You can easily do this by clicking on the default numbers from the “If the visitor scores between” section, and entering the numbers you want, or using the arrows to set the numbers you want to be the minimum and maximum values:

Setting these numbers means that if users will get the result/score that is between this redirect range, then they will be shown the page/post or custom URL that you will set up here.

Once you have set up the redirect range, you will have to define the place, where the users who take the quiz (and get the result/score within the redirect range), will be redirected to at the end of the quiz.

You can do this in the “then redirect to” section. There are two options you can choose from here.

By default, the “Content on this site” option is selected, but if you click on the down arrow next to it, you will see both of the available options appear in a drop-down:

Select one of the options and then, continue with the setup by taking the other necessary steps, based on which option you have selected:

  • Redirect to “Content on this site”

If you choose the “Content on this site” option, then you will be able to redirect the quiz takers to a specific page or post from your website.

After you have selected this option, look for the page/post you want the quiz takers to be redirected to, in the “Search content” field:

Start typing the name of the page or post that you are looking for in this field and you will see a list appear with possible results for your search:

When you find the page/post you are looking for, simply click on it and it will be selected.

After you have selected the content (page/post) you want to be displayed, click on the “Save” button next to it, to save this redirect setting:

  • Redirect to “An external URL”

If you choose the “An external URL” option, from the drop-down of the “then redirect to” section; you will be able to redirect the quiz takers to an external URL, to an external page that you want the quiz takers to see when they finish the quiz.

All you have to do to achieve this is to enter the external URL/the link in the “Add URL” field:

Note: The external link that you insert in the “Add URL” field should start with “http://” or “https://”. It will not be enough if you write a URL that starts with “www” here.

After you have completed the “Add URL” field, click on the “Save” button next to it to save this redirect setting:

Category quiz type

The page where you can set up the redirect for a category quiz type is different from the redirect page for the other types of quizzes. This is because in this case, you have to set a redirect for each quiz category that you have previously set up, in order for the redirect settings to work properly.

This is an example of how this page will look like when you try to set up a redirect for a category type quiz:

The “Number of category results” is based on how many categories you have set up for your quiz. You will have to set up a redirect for each of these category results, meaning each category that the quiz has.

This way you will be able to display a different page/post of your website, or an external URL for each of the categories of the quiz. So depending on the setup you create here, the quiz takers can be taken to different pages, based on the category they have reached as the result of the quiz.

Next to each category name, you will see that the “Redirect to content on-site” option is selected by default. Click on the arrow next to this option:

A drop down will open which displays both available options here:

Click on one of the options to select it and then continue with the setup accordingly.

  • Redirect to content on site

Just as its name says, if you choose this option, you will be able to redirect the quiz takers to a page or a post from your website.

All you have to do is to go to the “Search for content” field of the respective category:

Then start typing the name of the page/post you want to redirect the quiz takers to. This will show you a list of the results of your search. Look for the page/post in the results list and when you have found it, click on it to select it:

After you select the page/post, it will be added automatically as the redirect setting for the respective category.

  • Redirect to external URL

If you choose this option, you will be able to redirect the users who take your category quiz to an external URL.

To do that, go to the “Add URL” field of the quiz category you want to add this redirect to:

Then complete the field with the external URL/the link to the external page, you want the people, who get this category as the result of the quiz, to be taken to.

Note: As mentioned before, the external link that you insert in the “Add URL” field should start with “http” or “https://” in this case as well. It will not be enough if you write a URL that starts with “www” here.

After you enter the external URL, it will be added as the redirect setting for the respective category.

Repeat the process, by using either the “Redirect to content on-site” or the “Redirect to external URL” options, until you assign a redirect in the form of a post/page or an external URL, for each one of your quiz categories.

Tip: You should make sure that the page/post, or the page where the external URL leads to, is customized to fit the category that it will be connected with. This way, the quiz takers will be redirected to content that will be specific to the category that they have gotten, as the result of the quiz.

Edit/change a redirect setting

If you want to change one of the redirect settings (may that be a post/page that you have added to a quiz or an external URL that you have added as the redirect URL), simply click on the edit option (pencil icon) next to the respective redirect post/page or external URL:

This will open the edit mode of the field and you can search for another page/post from your website, or enter a different external URL instead of the current one.

After you have added the redirect settings to either quiz type, you also have two additional options on the page: the “Display Redirect Message” and the “Forward results to URL”. Here is how you can use these:

Display Redirect Message

You can use this option to display a customized message for the quiz takers. To do this, activate the “Display redirect Message” option, by clicking on the checkbox next to it:

This will open a new section containing the default message that you can customize. You will see three separate fields in this section: the “Title”, the “Message” and the “Duration” field:

  • If you want to change the text from the first two fields, simply click on the field you want to customize, delete the default texts from it and replace it with your own title and message.

  • If you want the message to be displayed for more seconds than the default number of seconds (which is 3), simply click on the number from the “Duration” field, delete it and replace it with the number of seconds you want the message to be shown.

The changes/customization that you apply to the message will be saved automatically. The message you set up here will be shown after someone finishes the quiz. It will be displayed for as many seconds as you have set in the “Duration” field; after which the quiz takers will be redirected to the post/page or external URL that you have set up as the redirect.

Forward results to URL

The other additional option you can activate here is the “Forward results to URL” option. In order to use this option, you will simply have to activate it by checking the checkbox next to it:

If you activate this option a new section will be opened, displaying the parameters that will be forwarded to the URL/the link of the page/post, or external page, that you have set as the redirect:

As you can see in the above image, the name, the email and the quiz result will be forwarded to the URL of the page/post or external page. Our tech-savvy users can use these forwarded parameters/strings to further customize the redirect page if they wish.

After you are done setting up every aspect of the “URL Redirect” option, the “Redirect status” in the upper right part of the page will be “Quiz Ready”:

This means that you have successfully set up the redirects. Now, you can use the breadcrumbs from the upper part of the page to either go back to the “Quiz Builder Dashboard”, or to go back to your quiz and continue customizing it:
