The "Tag" feature in Thrive Ovation works like a label for your testimonials.

For example, if you are selling multiple products on your website, you can use a tag for each product, thus putting each testimonial into a product's category. The advantage of tags is that each testimonial can have more than one tag.

This will be very useful when you're using the filter options to find the right testimonials, but it becomes even more powerful combined with the Tag Dynamic Content.

The Tag Dynamic Content feature can be used to automatically display a testimonial on your website, depending on the tag that you have assigned to that testimonial.

This means that the moment you add the tag to a testimonial or the moment you approve a testimonial labeled with that tag, the Dynamic Content will be updated and display the new testimonial.

Below we are going to go through the steps you have to follow to use this feature properly.

1. The Testimonials Need to Have Tag(s)

Regardless of the way a testimonial is added, in order to be able to use the dynamic content, it needs to have one or more tags. This means that you need to make sure the "Tag" field is completed.

When Importing / Adding a Testimonial Manually

If you are importing a testimonial or you are adding it manually, you need to make sure that you fill out the "Tag" field with one or more tags:

When Creating a Testimonial Capture Form

When a testimonial is submitted through a testimonial capture form, you could manually add tags when approving the testimonial in the Thrive Ovation Dashboard, but there is a better way!

Whenever you are creating a testimonial capture form you can automatically add tags. For this to work you will need to access the "Form Settings" and in the window that pops up, look for the "Add tags" field and add one or more tags:

In this way, after a testimonial is submitted, it will automatically be labeled with the tag(s) you added to the field highlighted above.

2. Setting Up the Dynamic Content Display

The next step is to display the testimonial on a page. You can either display it using Thrive Architect or using the WordPress Shortcodes, as shown in this article.

After you have proceeded in displaying your testimonial and chose a template from the "Testimonial Display Templates" window, you will need to "Create New Display Template" on the next window that pops up:

And then choose the "Tags - build dynamic content" selection mode:

After you have selected the Tag Dynamic Content option, a window with all the tags that you have used in your testimonials will pop up:

How does the Tag Dynamic Content feature work

When you choose the "Product A" tag as the display settings, whenever a testimonial that has the "Product A" tag is approved, it will be directly displayed on the page.

For example, if a user submits a testimonial on a form that has the "Product A" tag, it will be added to the Thrive Ovation dashboard with the "In review" status.

Once you approve the testimonial, it will be automatically displayed on the page where you set up the testimonials with the "Product A" tag to be displayed.

Testimonials will be added automatically until the "Max number of testimonials" will be reached. As you can see, the limit in the screenshot found above is 3 testimonials.

Important!

If the number limit of the displayed testimonials has been met, once a testimonial with the same tag is submitted, it will automatically replace one of the existing dynamic testimonials. In this way, your testimonials are automatically updated on that page.

3. Saving the Template

After you have selected the tags that you want to display, you can either save the testimonial display settings as a template, so that you can use them again (1) or you can finish without saving the changes (2):

If you choose to save it for future use, you will have to give the template a name, and then click on "Save and Close":

In this way, all these configurations will be included in a template and you will be able to use in the future, on other pages, as well.

Static vs. Dynamic Testimonials

The difference between the static and the dynamic content testimonials is that the static testimonials have to be individually selected from a list in order to be displayed on a certain page and will not update. If you want to change the testimonials, you'll have to go into the page and change them manually.

The dynamic content testimonials, on the other hand, have the ability to be displayed automatically, depending on the tags that they correspond to.

This concludes the article about how to use the "Tag Dynamic Content Feature" in Thrive Ovation.
