The user interface of the "Lead Generation" element has been upgraded! Please, check out the changes here, before using the element.
Thrive Themes products connect to ConvertKit through their API. Follow the video below to learn how this is done:
Here is what you need to do, in order to connect your ConvertKit account to a "Lead Generation" element, or to a Thrive Leads opt-in form:
Get the ConvertKit API key
What you have to do first, is to log in to your ConvertKit account, here.
Then, in the top right corner of the page, click on the section with your name and profile picture:
In the drop-down that opens, a list with some options will open. Click on "Account Settings":
In the "Account Info" section, you will be able to see the "API key" that you will need, to create the connection. Go ahead and copy that to your clipboard:
Add the key to your Thrive Dashboard
What you need to do now is access the Thrive Dashboard. From your WordPress admin dashboard, click on "Thrive Dashboard", in the left sidebar:
In this dashboard, scroll down to get to the "Thrive Features" and look for the "API Connections" card. Click on "Manage Connections":
As expected, this will open a list with all of the available and active connections. To add a new one, scroll down to the end of the list and click on "Add New Connection":
Then, click on the "Select an app" field, and look for the "ConvertKit / Seva" integration:
When you select it, you will be asked to insert the API key:
This is where you will have to paste in the previously copied key, from the ConvertKit account. After you do that, click on "Connect":
Then, a success notification will show, to let you know that the connection is ready for use:
Once the API connection with ConvertKit has been set, you will be able to connect your Thrive Leads forms and the "Lead Generation" elements to your account.
Connecting ConvertKit to a "Lead Generation" element
For this, open a page/post that contains a "Lead Generation" element using Thrive Architect. When you select the "Lead Generation" element, its options will appear in the left sidebar:
You can find in-depth information about all of these options and how to use them in this article.
1. Add Connection
To connect this element to your ConvertKit lists, make sure to select "API" in the "Connection" section:
Then, click on "Add Connection":
A small pop-up will open, where you will have to set up the connection.
You will first have to choose "ConvertKit" from the list of available connections. Click on the "Choose Connection" field:
The list will all the available integrations will open. Start typing "ConvertKit", or scroll down until you find it, and click on it:
After this, one more field will appear in the pop-up: "Choose your mailing list":
A useful piece of information worth knowing here is that in your ConvertKit account, the mailing lists are actually called forms. You can access them from the "Landing Pages & Forms" tab of your navigation bar:
This will open the dashboard, where you can add a new form:
Thus, all the forms that you have set up in your ConvertKit account will show up in the mailing list drop-down:
Optionally, tags can also be added to the connection. If you want to do that, enter the name of the tag in this field, and click on the plus sign:
When you're all done, click on "Apply", to create the connection:
2. Set up the form fields
The connection has been made. The next step would be to set up the form fields.
For each type of field, we have created a separate article, that explains how to add and customize it, and you can check them out here:

- How to Set Up the Hidden Custom Field Type
- How to Set Up the GDPR Custom Field Type
You can find out more information about how to do that, in the dedicated section of the "Lead Generation" article, that you can find here.
After setting up the fields, you're all done, and you can start using the connection. Just make sure to save all the changes, so that the API connection to be saved as well. To do that, click on the green "Save Work" button from the bottom left side of the screen:
Connecting ConvertKit to Thrive Leads
You can also connect your mailing list to one of the forms created in Thrive Leads. For that, access the Thrive Leads dashboard, by hovering over "Thrive Dashboard":
After you open the dashboard, find the Lead Group, that contains the type of form that you want to add the connection to, and click on it, to open the list with all of the form types:
After you find the form type (in this case, "Widget"), click on "Edit", from its right side:
This will open a list with all the "Widget" types of forms. Look for the one that you want to add the connection to, and click on "Edit Design":
The Thrive Architect editor will open. The form will have a "Lead Generation" element inside it, and you can select it, by clicking on it, in the editor:
The "Lead Generation" options will appear in the left sidebar. The way to set up the ConvertKit connection is exactly as described above when explaining how to link this connection to a "Lead Generation" element.
You can then set the display settings of the form, and choose on what posts/pages it should appear, and you're all set.
You are now all set to use this connection. Each time someone will sign up using a form from your site, they will also be added to the chosen mailing list, as a subscriber.
